He manages portfolios of high conviction equity securities constructed from companies in the $1-20 billion market cap range executing on business models that can defensively scale into large addressable markets. He develops risk budgets based internal portfolio metrics and external factors that are sensitive to signals in the places most vulnerable to excesses/extremes.
Simons Chase was a senior strategist for Systematic Alpha LLC, a NYC-based quantitative hedge fund. He has over 20 years of media, finance and early-stage investing experience on the frontiers of emerging trends, starting with oil & gas finance in Russia in the 1990s. Simons is the publisher of CubaJournal.co and High.co, two niche media sites, where he writes about culture, investing and society.
Previously, Simons was the CEO of Instra Corp. (New Zealand), a digital marketing company, and CEO of dotRIP Ltd, a digital memorial startup and Instra holding company, that was sold to Demand Media. In his early career, Mr. Chase was a structured finance banker and operating company executive with broad exposure to hotel, oil & gas, mining, telecom and hydropower sectors in more than 30 countries including Russia, Jordan, Colombia, Guatemala and Jamaica. Simons is finalizing Earth Tycoon, an autobiographical novel, and hopes to publish next year. The novel is set in a variety of countries but focuses on the human side of his experience running a mining company in the Jordanian desert that was financed by the late Forbes-list industrialist, Jerry Zucker. Simons studied developing country economics in graduate school (MA Economics) and has a BA in English.
